I don’t write a lot of flash fiction, but I do write it occasionally and a couple of days ago I discovered that there is a yahoo group for writers of flash. I noticed that the group sends out a newsletter and that the newsletter contains market listings. Like a lot of writers I am always looking for new places to send my work to and so I joined the group. The last mailing had already been sent out and so I had missed it. Once my membership was approved, though, Pam Casto, who owns the group, manually sent me out a copy of the mailing.
I have had a look through the newsletter and the markets section contains a couple of paying markets that I had never heard of, including one that pays $100 – $200 for personal stories between 750 – 1500 words. And that is quite a bit of wonga for a work of flash. If your story is accepted and you record a reading of it for them they pay a further $150. Very good, don’t you think?
I noticed that the newsletter also containts listings for competitions and tha the group offers online flash workshops, which appear to be free.
If you are a writer of flash, or if you want to be a writer of flash, or even a Flash Harry writer of short shorts, then you might want to check the group out. Like all Yahoo Groups it is free to join. Here is the link if you are interested. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FlashFictionFlash
And here is the link to that rather well paying market that I mentioned earlier: http://commonties.com/blog/submit-a-story/ Now don’t say I never give you anything.
